Imagine two quotes for the same job. One arrives from info@smith-electrical.com, the other from smith.electrical@gmail.com. Same person, same price, yet they feel different.
That doesn't mean Gmail is bad. For personal use and getting started, it's perfect. For business email, though, the address is part of the first impression, just like your logo or website.
Why does the email address matter?
When you write to a client, the From address is often the first thing they notice about you. On a business card it's also one of the first things they see. If you have a website, the strongest setup is the same domain in the browser bar and in your email. One brand, one name, clearer trust.
An @gmail.com, @yahoo.com, or similar free address is familiar and practical, but it comes across as more personal. An info@yourcompany.com or name@yourcompany.com ties the email to the business right away. It looks more consistent and professional, and creates a more trustworthy impression.
What the client sees
| Gmail / free email / etc. | Email on your own domain | |
|---|---|---|
| Appearance | Personal | Tied to the business |
| Impression | Familiar, less corporate | Clearly businesslike |
| Brand building | Weaker | Every email reinforces the brand |
| Organization | One inbox for everything | info@, sales@, name@ |
| Handover | Tied to a person | Tied to the company |
Spam filters and deliverability
Business emails sent from @gmail.com end up in spam more often, especially with bulk quotes or newsletters. Sent from your own domain, deliverability is usually better, and there's less chance of landing in spam. If the client doesn't get the email, that's lost business.
What does it cost?
A .hu domain typically costs around 2,000-3,500 Ft a year. The first year is often cheaper on promotion. With us, email hosting starts from 1,500 Ft/month, and larger plans are 2,000-2,500 Ft/month. The domain is billed separately. So for a few thousand forints a month you can have professional email, while businesses typically spend more on business cards or a logo.
Which addresses are worth using?
A few proven patterns: info@yourcompany.com for general inquiries, hello@yourcompany.com for a friendlier tone, name@yourcompany.com for more personal but still professional contact, sales@yourcompany.com for sales, support@yourcompany.com for customer service. Complicated, hard-to-remember addresses are best avoided.
When is Gmail still enough?
Gmail (and the like) are perfectly fine at the start, for a one-person side project with few clients, or for purely internal communication. But as soon as you write to clients, send a quote, or issue an invoice, it's worth switching. It's one of the fastest and cheapest steps toward a more professional appearance.
How do we handle this?
If you have a website, it makes sense for the domain to be the same for the web address and for email. One brand, one trust signal. Web and email hosting can be ordered separately with us, or together. One place, clearly organized.
In summary
A custom email address isn't a luxury. It's one of the business basics: low cost, high impact, a more professional appearance, a stronger brand.
If you have a website but still send mail from Gmail, it's worth considering the switch. If you don't have a website or a domain yet, get in touch with our team and we'll start both together.
